Smoking has a damaging effect on human beings. A large number of people pass away each year from illness caused by smoking. Smoking is responsible for 90% of lung cancer deaths. Smoking cigarettes significantly increases the risk for cancer of the larynx, oral cavity, esophagus, bladder, kidney, and pancreas. In addition, it might increase the chance of developing breast cancer for women. Smoking not only endangers the smoker's life but also the nonsmokers’. As a result it is your responsibility to abandon such a hideous practice to help yourself and the people around you.

Quitting this habit isn't easy. It requires a strong determination and will power. Number things
you can do to help yourself to quit smoking:
  • Make a vow that you will quit smoking.
  • Set an approximate date within which you want to quit it.
  • Start decreasing the number of cigarettes you smoke.
  • Get rid of cigarette cases and ashtrays.
  • Keep yourself aloof from smokers.
  • Join groups formed by the former smokers to boost the self-discipline in you.
  • Whenever you are keen to smoke, drink a glass of water or take nicotine replacement products.
  • Ask help from your family members.
  • See a doctor for appropriate suggestions.
  • Failure might occur, but don't be impatient, try again. 
Remember, quitting this bad habit has many good sides. If you quit smoking before the age of 50 then you will be able to reduce the risk of life-threatening disease by half after just one year, compared with those who continue smoking. In addition, it will save you a lot of money. So, quit smoking and lead a happy and healthy life.
