Hilsa is the national fish of Bangladesh. It is by far the most delicious as well as expensive fish in Bangladesh. However, its fame is not restricted within Bangladesh, rather hilsha has worldwide popularity.

Hilsa is a marine fish and lives mostly in the sea but it migrates to rivers in the Indian subcontinent over a distance of about 1200 km for breeding. Except Bangladesh, this fish is also found in 11 countries: India, Myanmar, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. However, Bangladesh is the highest hisha-producing county in the world. The Bangladeshi hisha is much more delicious than any hilshas.
